Are you new to tracking macros? These are the top 5 mistakes or tips I see when it comes to tracking on MyFitnessPal.
Serving sizes are usually a lot smaller than we think. Take a bag of M & M’s sharing size. One may think that this is just one big serving because who would eat these in one sitting but it may be two servings. So you eat the entire bag and only track it as one serving. This can throw you calories off by a couple hundred calories a day and add this up over time it can cause you to gain or cause you not to reach your goals. It also doesn’t teach you what a serving size truly is.
Anyone can add foods into MyFitnessPal and even foods in there are incorrect when you scan a UPC label. Make sure that you are truly conscious of calories for a food item and make sure that all carbohydrates, protein and fats are entered for a given food.
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.0.6″]Taking a few bites of your toddlers leftovers still counts and so does the oil you use in cooking and that extra bite of food that you didn’t track. Even though these are small they all add up!
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.0.6″]MyFitnessPal is a great tool to use when it comes to tracking but because there is so much variability when it comes to foods it can cause a lot of inaccuracies. For example, a piece of cake can range from 100 calories all the way up to 1 thousand depending on ingredients and the portion size. Understanding the average amount of calories, carbohydrates, protein and fats in each food can be helpful not only for picking the right item in MFP but also after you stop tracking.
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.0.6″ custom_padding=”||0px|||”]This isn’t something to keep an eye out for in MyFitnessPal but just something the be consious of. The more you plan out your day and meals ahead of time ESPECIALLY in the beginning the more likely you are to be able hit you target macros and calorie goals for the day. If you don’t think ahead then you will be grabbing foods unconsiously without knowledge of what you have left and what you have already eaten.
